Things to do in Southern, Laos


While the North part of this lovely country has some attractive places like Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and Vientiane, there is something interesting about the stunning landscapes and the unique architectures in South which is definitely an escape from the bustling life.

Tham Kong Lo is a large limestone cave located in Phu Hin Bu National Park, Khammouane Province.  About 130 km to the north, thanks to the Nam Hun Bun River flowing into the cave, visitors who take part  in the foreign tours to Laos can pay a visit by boat.
Tham Kong Lo caves are up to 90 meters in height, so there is a large space in the cave. The lake, which emits turquoise light in the cave, is a sacred place of local people who believe that this lake is the skin of a god.
To discover Bolaven, there are two loops for you to choose from. Small bow can go within 3 days. Large arcades will go through many more rapids, which means the path will be more difficult, completed in about 5 days.

Plan a trip to Vang Vieng from Luang Prabang

Vangvieng is a district (muang) in Vientiane Province of Laos with a population of about 25,000 people. It has a long, unused airport runway, lying parallel to the Nam Song River. This airport is used for the Air Nationalist Aircraft in Vietnam. The main highway from Luangprabang to Vientiane. This district has been developing since the 1980s as the number of domestic and foreign tourists has increased. Vang Vieng now has a hotel, restaurant, travel agency service for tourists. Vangvieng market sells bat, squirrel and monkey meat. In the center of the district there is a temple. Vang Vieng is located on Highway 13 between Vientiane and Luang Prabang. Vientiane to Vang Vieng by bus takes 3-4 hours and 6-8 hours from Vang Vieng to Luong Prabang.

2. Vang Vien Bus

Take a bus to Vang Vieng at Vientiane North Bus Station or at the Vientiane downtown hotel. Ticket prices vary by bus type. Vip bus is better and faster than mini bus or local bus. Vip prices around 60,000 - 70,000 Kip prices for 2013 mini or local bus prices from 40,000 to 50,000 Kip.
